General Emil von Zezschwitz was the Kingdom of
Saxony's Chief of General Staff from 1868 to 1873. Zezschwitz was commissioned
as an infantry officer in 1839. During the Austro-Prussian War of 1866
(Der Deutsche Krieg) he served as a Major on the Saxon General Staff. As an
Oberst-Lieutenant, von Zezschwitz was Saxony's Chief of General Staff as his
troops marched to battle during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.
