Saxon artillery officer Ludwig Alexander Westmann
served most of his military career in peacetime Saxony. On two different
occasions, he was detached to Prussian Great General Staff headquarters in
Berlin. Having returned to Dresden in 1901, he replaced Felix Barth as Max von
Hausen's Chief of Staff at XII. Armeekorps headquarters.
