Generalmajor Georg Wermuth was a Royal Saxon regimental commander who also served for one year as Saxon Chief of General Staff. He spent his entire 30-year career as an officer in peacetime Saxony. During this time he was Chief of Staff at XIX. Armeekorps headquarters, and then the same function with XII. Armeekorps. In 1905, Wermuth replaced Chief of General Staff Georg von Wagner when he unexpectedly died in office. Wermuth was only one year into his position, when he likewise died in office as the age of 50.
