General Karl von Strotha served as Prussia's War Minister from 1848 to 1850. He initially
enlisted in the Prussian military in 1805, in time to take part in the Battle of
Jena-Auerstedt. He additionally fought an artillerist in numerous
battles during the War of the Sixth Coalition.
General
Strotha became Minister of War in the Brandenburg government in late
1848, playing a significant role in the military organization of the
counter-revolution. He also headed up the military's suppression of the
Palatinate revolt. In 1850, Strotha resigned his ministry post due to
power disputes with King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. He was promoted to
General-Lieutenant and served as commander of the Second Artillery Inspectorate,
retiring from active duty in 1854. He later authored numerous books covering
Prussia's military history.
