Gustav Waldemar von Rauch
(30.01.1819 - 07.05.1890)
place of birth:  Berlin
Königreich Preußen:  Chef d. Landgend, Div-Kdr, General der Cavallerie

Cavalry general Gustav Waldemar von Rauch
served as a Prussian military officer during the wars with Austria and France. His father Gustav was Prussian Minister of War Minister from 1837 to 1841. In 1848, Premier-Lieutenant von Rauch was transferred from General Staff Headquarters to St. Petersburg, where he served for four years as a military attaché in Tsar Nicholas II.'s royal court.

Following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, General von Rauch served for seven years as commander of 9. Infanterie-Division headquarters in Glogau, until poor health forced his retirement from active duty in 1879.  Kaiser Wilhelm I., nevertheless, appointed General der Cavallerie von Rauch to serve as Chief of the Landesgendarmerie (Prussia's national military police force) in Berlin, a posting he retained until being replaced by his brother General Albert von Rauch in August 1888.
