(30.01.1819 - 07.05.1890)
place of birth: Berlin
Königreich
Preußen: Chef

Kavallerie
Cavalry general Gustav Waldemar von Rauch served as a Prussian military
officer during the wars with Austria and France. His father Gustav was Prussian
Minister of War Minister from 1837 to 1841. In 1848, Oberleutnant von Rauch was
transferred from General Staff Headquarters to St Petersburg, where he served
for four years as a military attache in Tsar Nicholas II's royal court.
Following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71, General von Rauch
served for seven years as 9th Infantry Division Commander in Glogau until health
reasons forced his retirement in 1879. Kaiser Wilhelm I, however,
appointed von Rauch to serve as Chief of
the Landes-Gendarmerie (Territorial Law Enforcement) in Berlin, a posting
he kept until he was replaced by his brother Albert von Rauch in August 1888.
