Adolf Bernhard von Rabenhorst
(29.05.1801 - 14.06.1873)
place of birth:  Hoflößnitz, Saxony
Königreich Sachsen:  Kriegsminister,  General der Infanterie ch.

Bernhard von Rabenhorst served as War Minister for the Kingdom of Saxony from 1849 through 1866. He launched his military career as a 15-year old at Dresden Military Academy. In 1849, at the rank of Oberst, von Rabenhorst was appointed as Saxony's Minister of War. Remaining in this office for the next 16 years afforded him the chance to build up and modernize the kingdom's army.

General-Lieutenant von Rabenhorst headed up the Saxon Army in coalition with Austria's armed forces as they fought Prussia during the War of 1866. Following the Prussian victory in Königgrätz, von Rabenhorst was forced to step down from his post. In retirement, Saxon King Johann awarded von Rabenhorst the honorary rank of General der Infanterie. Rabenhorst's son Adolf served in the Saxon Army as a Generalleutnant, while two others sons, Woldemar and Bernhard both served as Majors.
