Adolf Friedrich
was the Grand Duke (Grossherzog) of Mecklenburg from 1904 until his death in 1914. He was the only surviving child of Mecklenburg's former Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm and Princess Auguste Karoline of Great Britain. Adolf Friedrich took  part in the Franco-German War of 1870-71, serving in Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 89 and representing his father's Grand Duchy during the 1871 coronation of the first German Kaiser, Friedrich Wilhelm I., which took place at the Versailles Palace.
