Bernhard von Lippe
was a Prussian staff officer who served as General à la suite in Kaiser Wilhelm II.'s retinue prior to the Great War. Bernhard enlisted in 1864 as a Fahnenjunker in Königin Elisabeth Garde-Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 3, and it was with this regiment that he participated in the Danish War of 1864 (Deutsch-Dänischer Krieg). On 11 October 1865, he was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant with the regiment.

As a young officer, von Lippe took part in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 (Deutscher Krieg), seeing action at Soor and Königgrätz. As an adjutant in II. Battalion, he again went into combat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 (Deutsch-Französischer Krieg). He took part in battles at St. Privat, Beaumont, Sedan, and the Siege of Paris. He was wounded during the engagement at Le Bourget, and ended the war having been decorated with both the Second and First Class of the Iron Cross. Von Lippe later served as an adjutant in the 13. Infanterie-Division and 28. Infanterie-Division, and in February 1878 was detached to Great General Staff headquarters in Berlin.

Von Lippe was chosen in January 1888 as a Flügeladjutant (aide-de-camp) to Kaiser Wilhelm I.  Upon Kaiser Wilhelm II.'s accession to the throne, Major von Lippe received command of Schloß-Garde-Kompanie on 19 June 1888 and was promoted to Oberst-Lieutenant in December. As a Flügeladjutant, he was brought into the Militär-Kabinett (Military Cabinet) on 24 March 1890. His promotion to Oberst on 14 February 1891 was followed by promotion to Generalmajor on 27 January 1895 and elevation to General à la suite S.M. Bernhard von Lippe was designated on 12 September 1896 as diensttuender General à la suite S.M. but passed away soon thereafter at 50 years of age.
