General Kraft zu Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen was a Prussian infantry and artillery
officer and served as adjutant general on the Kaiser's staff. Kraft was
commissioned in 1845 as Sekonde-Lieutenant in the Garde-Artillerie-Brigade. His
unit was involved in the street fighting during the so-called Baden
Revolution 1848-1849 (Badische Revolution). As a young officer, his career
was boosted greatly due to his serving as military attaché in Vienna, as well as
his time as aide-de-camp to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. and King Wilhelm I.
During the Danish War of 1864
(Deutsch-Dänischer Krieg), Kraft was a staff officer in General von Wrangel's
field headquarters. He then functioned as Garde-Korps artillery commander during
the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 (Deutscher Krieg) and was wounded at
Königgrätz. He played an essential artillery role in many of the key
battles of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 (Deutsch-Französischer
Krieg), and in December 1870 he was designated combined artillery commander for
the Siege of Paris. For his participation and leadership during the
war, he was decorated with the coveted Pour le Mérite medal.
Following the conflict, Generalmajor von Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen
headed up 2. Artillerie-Inspektion under the leadership of General von
Podbielski. He was promoted to General-Lieutenant and was commander of 12.
Division in Neiße from 1873 to 1879. In 1875, Kraft von Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen
was promoted from General à la suite to Generaladjutant within Kaiser Wilhelm
I.'s retinue. He continued in this role even after retiring from active duty in
1879. On 22 March 1889 following Wilhelm I.'s death, Kraft was bestowed
with the duty title (Diensttitel) of General der Artillerie. His brother Friedrich Wilhelm was also a Prussian adjutant general,
and their father General Adolf Prinz zu Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen served as Prussian
Minister President in 1862.
