place of birth: Schloss Albrechtsberg bei Dresden
Königreich

General
à la suite SM, Generalleutnant
Wilhelm Graf von Hohenau was a Prussian brigade commander and General à
la suite in Kaiser Wilhelm II.'s headquarters. As the son of Generaloberst
Prince Albrecht von Preußen, Wilhelm was the nephew of Kaiser Wilhelm I. and
thus first cousin to Friedrich III. Albrecht's marriage to Wilhelm's
mother Rosalie von Rauch, daughter of Prussian War Minister Gustav von Rauch,
was morganatic and thus Wilhelm was not a member of the Royal House of
Hohenzollern.
Wilhelm Graf von Hohenau served as aide-de-camp to Kaiser Wilhelm
II. and commanded 1. Garde-Kavallerie-Brigade in Berlin from 22 April 1902 to 27
January 1901. With his promotion to Generalmajor on 18 April 1903, Graf von
Hohenau was elevated to diensttuender General à la suite. He
continued in this role and was promoted to Generalleutnant on 25 October 1906.
Considered to be part of the Liebenberg Round Table, von Hohenau was
thus caught up in the so-called Eulenburg Affair of 1907-09. His
acquittal on charges of homosexuality did not save his military career, however,
and he was forced into early retirement.
