Friedrich von Hertling briefly served in 1839 as the administrator
of Bavaria's War Ministry. His older brother Franz also served as Bavarian War
Minister. Hertling launched his military career in 1798 and saw action from 1800
to 1814in several European campaigns. He additionally led Bavarian auxiliary
troops in Greece from 1832 to 1834 in support of King Otto, a Bavarian prince
who ruled as Greece's first king.
