General von Heinleth served in the Royal
Bavarian Army as an infantry officer from 1842 through 1890. Heinleth saw
action in both the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 and as the I. Armee-Korps
chief of staff during the
Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Following the war years, Heinleth also
served as the Bavarian Army Chief of General Staff from 1878-81. In 1885, General von Heinleth was appointed
to replace Joseph Ritter von Maillinger as Bavaria's Minister of War, a
position he held for five years.
