General Friedrich von Brandenburg was a Prussian divisional commander

Graf von Brandenburg was an army corps commander and Prussian Minister President
from 1848 until his death in 1850. Friedrich joined the Regiment der Gardes du
Corps in 1836 and remained attached to that unit for 30 years. He was commander
of the corps from 1859 to 1866, leading his soldiers into battle during the
Austro-Prussian War of 1866 (Deutscher Krieg). After the war, he
headed up 1. Garde-Kavallerie-Brigade and with his promotion to Generalmajor in
March 1868, was designated General à la suite in King Wilhelm I.'s
court.
Generalmajor von Brandenburg remained in command
of his cavalry brigade during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71
(Deutsch-Französischer Krieg), where he and his men were engaged in fighting at
Gravelotte, Sedan, Beaumont, and participated in the Siege of
Paris. Following the armistice, Friedrich was transferred to Breslau to
take command of 11. Division headquarters and receive promotion to
General-Lieutenant. Continuing with his divisional command, Kaiser Wilhelm I.
promoted Friedrich on 10.09.1873 to Generaladjutant. Although von
Brandenburg retired from active duty on 13.01.1880, he remained on the rank
listing as an adjutant general and was ultimately promoted to General der
Kavallerie in September 1880. After Kaiser Wilhelm I.'s death in 1888, Friedrich
represented Imperial Germany as a diplomat in Belgium and Portugal. Friedrich
Graf von Brandenburg's twin brother Wilhelm also served as adjutant general to
Kaiser Wilhelm I.
