Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Brandenburg served as Prussia's Minister President in 1848. He was the son of King Friedrich Wilhelm II. and Duchess Sophie von Dönhoff. He officially became Duke of Brandenburg in 1795 at the age of three. Friedrich Wilhelm officially became Duke of Brandenburg in 1795 at the age of 3. He joined the Regiment der Gardes du Corps in 1807 and then participated in the War of the Fourth Coalition 1806-1807 (Vierter Koalitionskrieg).

As a cavalry captain, he also took part in French Invasion of Russia 1812 (Russland Feldzug) and was decorated with the Pour le Mérite medal. By 1839 Graf von Brandenburg was commanding general of VI. Armee-Korps and was promoted to General der Kavallerie in 1848. He succeeded Ernst von Pfuel as Prussian Minister from 1848 but died unexpectedly on 6 November 1850 in Berlin. Prior to his death, he had been decorated with Prussia's highest order of chivalry, the Schwarzer Adler-Orden (Order of the Black Eagle.) Graf von Brandenburg's twin sons Wilhelm and Friedrich were both Prussian cavalry generals who served as adjutant generals in Kaiser Wilhelm I.'s court.
