Albrecht Besserer was a cavalry officer who briefly filled in as
Bavaria's Minister of War in 1838-39. Soon after entering military service, he
took part in the 1806-07 War of the Fourth Coalition. He also saw
action in the 1809 War of the Fifth Coalition as well as the 1812

awarded both the Militär-Max Joseph Orden and the Pour le Merite.
On 24 June 1817, he was additionally enrolled into Bavarian nobility as Freiherr
(Baron) Besserer von Thalfingen.
In the early 1830s,
Besserer was chosen by Crown Prince (and later King) Maximilian II to be his
aide-de-camp and Hofmarschall. Besserer was promoted in November 1833 to the
rank of Generalmajor and simultaneously selected as King Ludwig I's adjutant
general. Beginning in November 1838, Freiherr Besserer von Thalfingen was
charged with running the administrative affairs of Bavarian's War Ministry. He
remained in this function until unexpectedly passing away in February 1839 at
the age of 51. His son Maximilian Besserer (1820-1903) also served in the
Bavarian Army as a Generalmajor.
