Rudolf von Auerswald served as Prussian Minister
President (Prime Minister) and Foreign Minister for a brief period in
1848. He was born and raised in West Preussen (present-day Poland) as a
member of the Meissen nobility, but spent much of his youth in Königsberg. Auerswald served in a
cavalry regiment as part of Napoleon's 1812 invasion of Russia, seeing
action in Livonia and Courland. His
brother Alfred was also a Prussian politician, and his brother Hans
served as a Prussian general officer.
