(04.02.1871 - 28.02.1925) place of birth: Heidelberg, Großherzogtum Baden Deutsches Kaiserreich: Reichskanzler, Reichpräsident der Weimarer Republik Friedrich Ebert succeeding Prince Max von Baden as Imperial German Chancellor as hostilities of the Great War were brought to a close. Herr Ebert was then selected as President of the Weimar Republic, serving from 1919 to 1925. The son of a master tailor, Ebert was a socialist and trade unionist who in 1905 became Secretary General of the German Social Democratic Party (SPD) and later became the SPD Party Chairman (1914). He was also an anti-revolutionary and even a monarchist. As was typical with Europe's other Socialist Party elites, he was a patriot whose nationalist feelings remained stronger than his internationalist convictions. Ebert tragically lost two sons during World War One.
