Royal Prussian officer Hugo von Winterfeld served
as Adjutant General under three Kaisers: Wilhelm I, Friedrich III, and
Wilhelm II. Winterfeld participated in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866.
As a Hauptmann at Prussia's Great Staff headquarters, he fought at Sedan during the Franco-Prussian
War of 1870-71. In his final assignment, von Winterfeld
followed General von Meerscheidt-Hüllessem as commander of the Guards
Corps in Berlin. During the last year of his command, he additionally
headed the Supreme
Command of Mark Brandenburg (Oberkommando in den Marken).
