Reichardt served during the Great War as an army corps chief of staff. He
entered military service in 1888 and was working as an infantry battalion
commander by the time hostilities broke out in 1914. After mobilization, he was
initially XXVII. Reservekorps' Chief of Staff and in 1915 was chosen to head up
an Ersatz infantry regiment. For his exemplary leadership as the regimental
commander, he was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) of Saxony's highest
military order - the Militär-St-Heinrich-Orden. Later, as Chief of Staff of XIX.
Armeekorps, he was also awarded the Kommandeurkreuz II. (Komtur II) of the
Militär-St-Heinrich-Orden. After the war ended, Reichardt remained on active
duty until poor health forced him to retire in 1921 as a brevet Generalmajor.
