Robert von Massow was a Prussian cavalry general who served as a
corps-level commander in the latter part of the 19th century. From 1898 through
1903, General von Massow was the commander of IX. Army Corps in
Hamburg-Altona. In the years prior to the Great War, he further served as president
of the Imperial Military Tribunal (Reichsmilitärgericht)
in Charlottenburg. Massow retired from active duty in 1906 in protest of the
Kaiser having interfered in his courtroom verdicts. His son Ewald von Massow was
an SS-Gruppenführer during the Second World War.
