Royal Saxon military officer Georg von Loeben briefly served as General d'Elsa's Chief of Staff at XII. Armeekorps headquarters. For his exemplary performance in this function during the early stages of the Great War, he was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) of Saxony's highest military order - the Militär-St-Heinrich-Orden. Oberstleutnant von Loeben was married to Helene, the daughter of Saxon Generalleutnant Georg von Criegern.
