General of Infantry Eduard von Fransecky served as an officer
in the Imperial German Army from 1825 through 1879, when he was
selected as Governor of Berlin. He headed a division during the Austro-Prussian
War of 1866 and commanded the Second Army Corps during the Franco-Prussian
War of 1870-71. Thereafter, Kaiser Wilhelm I appointed von
Fransecky to command the newly-formed XV. Armeekorps with its headquarters in
Strasbourg. He additionally served as Governor of Berlin from 1879 to
1882.
