General
Georg von Braunschweig was commanding general of Prussia's XVII. Armeekorps
prior to World War One. Georg was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant in 1863.
He first saw action in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866 (Deutscher Krieg),
and during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 (Deutsch-Französischer Krieg)
as an adjutant in General von Manteuffel's 1. Armee. In post-war Imperial
Germany, von Braunschweig was in command of 10. Division in Posen, and then he
succeeded August von Lentze in 1902 as commanding general of XVII. Armeekorps
headquarters in Danzig. In January 1908, he was replaced by General August von
Mackensen.
