Friedrich Prinz von Sachsen-Meiningen was the son of Georg II. von Sachsen-Meiningen and Feodora zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg. His older brothe Bernhard III. succeeded their father Georg II. as the last Duke of Sachsen-
Meiningen. Prinz Friedrich studied at the University of Bonn and following matriculation pursued a military career as an artillery specialist in the Prussian Army. He retired from active duty in 1913 but was brought back into the service during mobilization, taking command of the 39th Reserve Infantry Brigade. Sadly, he was killed in action early on, falling near Nalinnes, Belgium. His son Ernst fell three days later at Maubeuge.
