A grandson of Queen Victoria, Carl Eduard was born in Esher, Surrey to Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, and Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont. He was first cousins with King George V of the United Kingdom and Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm II. Carl Eduard served in the German Armed Forces as a general during the Great War and was the Chef of Infanterie-Regiment Nr.95. He later functioned as an Obergruppenfuehrer and member of the National Socialist's Brownshirts organization. The Duke was a Nazi Party Reichstag member from 1937 to 1945.
