Adolf Friedrich was the Grand Duke (Grossherzog) of Mecklenburg from 1904 until his death in 1914. He was the only surviving child of Mecklenburg's former Grand Dukek Friedrich Wilhelm and Princess Auguste Karoline of Great Britain. Having taken part in the Franco-German War of 1870-71, Adolf Friedrich represented his father's Grand Duchy during the 1871 coronation of the first German Kaiser, Friedrich Wilhelm I., which took place at the Versailles Palace.
