Johann Albrecht
was the fifth child born to Grand Duke of Mecklenburg Friedrich Franz
II. and Auguste Reuss zu Schleiz-Koestritz. Johann Albrecht served as
the Regent of Schwerin from 1897 to 1901 and as Regent of the Duchy of
Braunschweig (Brunswick) from 1907 to 1913. In addition to his military
career, Johann Albrecht was an avid follower of Germany's colonial
empire, co-founding the Pan-German League and serving as President of
the German Colonial Society. He was interred in Munster at Bad Doberan.
