Hans Karl August von Winterfeld
(27.02.1857 - 15.11.1914)
place of birth:  Prenzlau
Königreich Preußen:  Div-Kdr,  General der Infanterie ch.

General
Hans von Winterfeld served as the Military Governor of the Mainz Fortress during the early stages of World War One. Winterfeld entered military service in 1875 and served in Guards units in the Berlin area. He also later functioned on various general staffs. He ultimately rose to Generalleutnant and division-level commander beginning in 1912. In March 1914, Winterfeld was chosen to function as Military Governor overseeing the Fortress at Metz. He remained there following Germany's mobilization for the Great War in August 1914, but passed away before year's end. Hans Karl Winterfeld should not be confused with Generalleutnant and Ober-Quartiermeister Hans Karl von Winterfeldt (1862-1931.)
