Karl Ritter von Riedl

Royal Bavarian lieutenant general commanding an infantry brigade from the Metz Fortress at the outset of the War. By summer of 1916, he was promoted to division-level commander and later lead the 6th Royal Bavarian Infantry Division until becoming seriously ill in May 1918. General von Riedl was the son of Andreas Riedl and Aline née Mayr. He and his spouse, Emma Preusser, had three sons.

For his bravery and meritorious leadership in battle, he was awarded the Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross) of Bavaria's highest military order - the Militär-Max-Joseph-Orden. He was officially presented with the decoration on 07.08.1915 and enrolled into Bavaria's nobility class in September. Generalleutnant von Riedl died in Munich in November 1919.
