Bavarian division commander August Ipfelkofer headed up the newly-formed
Bavarian 10. Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade during the first weeks of the
Great War. The brigade was initially based at Fortress Strasbourg, before
its staff was replaced by the general staff of 3. Reserve-Infanterie-Brigade.
Ipfelkofer was later in command of Bavaria's 5. Reserve-Division for two years
(1915-17).
For his leadership and achievements while in command of this division,
Generalleutnant Ipfelkofer was awarded Bavaria's Militär-Verdienst-Orden
(Military Merit Order 1st Class with Swords.)
