Paul Bloch von Blottnitz
was a Prussian general and artillery specialist who
commanded the 18th Infantry Division during the Great War. In March
1918, Bloch was killed in action in northern France.
During the
pre-War years and as a 40-year old field artillery officer, Bloch
deployed in June 1900 on board the S.M.Y. Hohenzollern to China. The
Prussian forces were a contingent of the Eight Nations Alliance, formed in order
to pacify the so-called Boxer Rebellion. Hauptmann Bloch von Blottnitz
served there as the commander of the Marine-Feldbatterie, a unit attached to the
Ostasiatisches Feldartillerie-Regiment.
