Richard Karl Gottlob Wilhelm Friedrich Freiherr von Süßkind-Schwendi
(03.07.1854 - 20.12.1946)
place of birth:  Schwendi, Oberschwaben
Königreich Preußen:  Stellv KG,  General der Infanterie

Freiherr Karl von Süßkind was General von Deimling's acting commander at XV. Armee-Korps headquarters in Straßbourg during the Great War. In the pre-War years, Süßkind served primarily in Guards units. He also functioned for several years as Prinz Alexander von Preußen's personal adjutant until the prince passed away in 1896. Süßkind also completed two tours as Prussia's military attaché at the Imperial German embassy in Paris. He then worked his way through regimental, brigade, and divisional commands, ultimately serving as Inspector General of III. Armee-Korps Landwehr Inspectorate in Berlin as Germany mobilized for World War One.

As War broke out in August 1914, General von Süßkind was brevetted with the rank of General der Infanterie as he headed up the 2. Garde-Reserve-Infanterie-Division on the Western Front. Within a few weeks, however, he was transferred back behind the lines to spend the next four years overseeing General Berthold von Deimling's XV. Armee-Korps headquarters in Strasbourg.
General Süßkind was married to Prussian General Hugo von Winterfeld's daughter Ilse, with whom he had four children.
