Gustav von Oertzen was a Prussian officer who served during the Great War
as acting commander of III. Armeekorps headquarters in Berlin. Prior to
the War, von Oertzen had served as an Abteilungs-Chef in
General von Lyncker's Military Cabinet. He was also elevated in 1910 to
General à la suite in the Kaiser's entourage. General von Oertzen was named
in 1911 as President of the Ober-Prüfungskommission, Prussia's military
examination board. In 1914, he was designated as Inspector General of Military
Education, simultaneously functioning as Deputy President on the
Reichsmilitärgericht, the imperial military tribunal.
