Prussian cavalry officer Max Freiherr von Holzing-Berstett served as one of His Majesty Kaiser Wilhelm II's aide-de-camps as Germany mobilized for the Great War. He also commanded a cavalry brigade commander for most of the latter half of the War. In post-War Germany, the general continued his involvement as an expert horseman, serving as president of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI) from 1935 to 1936. He died on 9 September 1936 in Bollschweil.
