Georg Hermann Fuchs
(25.12.1856 - 29.09.1939)
place of birth:  Danzig  (Gdansk)
Königreich Preußen:  OBH,  Generalleutnant

Prussian Generalleutnant Georg Fuchs commanded both at the division and corps level during the First World War. Fuchs began his career as an infantrist in 1877 and was soon selected to attend the Kriegsakademie, Prussia's War College. He was sent to Great General Staff headquarters in 1890 and spent over 12 of the following 27 years serving as a general staff officer. Fuchs received his first command when promoted to Oberst in 1907, Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 143 in Straßburg. He later commanded an infantry brigade and was in charge of 16. Infanterie-Division as Germany marched to War in August 1914.

General Fuchs's troops went into battle on the Western Front subordinate to Tülff von Tschepe's VIII. Armee-Korps headquarters which was part of 4. Armee-Oberkommando. After pushing through Luxembourg and Belgium, the 16th was engaged during the Battle of the First Marne, along with the subsequent trench warfare in the Champagne region. They were later also to participate in the Summer 1916 Somme Offensive. Fuchs was then tasked with replacing Robert Kosch as commander of X. Reserve-Korps and moved east to fight the Russians in Galicia. In October 1916, however, he was placed in charge of XIV. Reserve-Korps and returned to the Western Front to continue with the defense of the Somme River area. At German Supreme Command headquarters, General Ludendorff took notice of Fuchs's battlefield prowess and decided to place him in command of Armee-Abteilung C, an army group which had originally been formed under General Hermann von Strantz. Generalleutnant Fuchs was for his distinguished leadership in 1917 when Herzog Albrecht von Wurttemberg decorated him with the highest Royal Prussian order of bravery, the Pour le Mérite. Following the November 1918 armistice, Fuchs retired from active duty and on 6 October 1919 received the brevet rank of General der Infanterie.
