Majestät der König,
Generalfeldmarschall
Friedrich
August III. was the last reigning King of Saxony, ruling from
1904 to 1918. He was the son of King Georg and was married to Luise von
Toskana. Luise gave Friedrich August three children but left him during
her fourth pregnancy.
The Saxon king maintained very close ties
to the military and even received the rank of field marshal in
September 1912. Saxony's Friedrich-August-Medal was
established by the king in 1905..."to recognize commendable
achievements during battle by troops with the rank of company
sergeant-major (Feldwebel) and below." He also took great pains as a
ruler to maintain the balance of the traditional and the progressive.
On 13 November 1918, however, in response to the so-called November
Revolution, he abdicated the throne using the now
famous phrase "Macht doch euer'n Dreck aleene!" (you'll
just have to do your dirty business without my help!)
Friedrich August III. is buried at Sibyllenort in Kreis Oels.
