Karl Friedrich Dürr
(26.02.1854 - 06.09.1919)
place of birth:  Rastatt, Baden
Königreich Preußen:  GenAdj Großherzog von Baden,  General der Infanterie ch.

Prussian General Karl Dürr was an Imperial German infantry officer from the Grand Duchy of Baden. He entered military service in 1870 as Prussia was marching into war against France. After the Franco-Prussian War, Dürr remained with his regiment in Alsace for the next 15 years. He then spent about six years in the service of Friedrich, heir to the Grand Duchy of Baden (future Großherzog Friedrich II. von Baden.)

After functioning as a company commander and battalion commander, Major Dürr separated from the Germany Army in 1896 in order to join the Imperial Naval Infantry in Kiel. In command of a See-Bataillon, he deployed in 1898 to China, where the Germans were monitoring the political and military situation around the port of Qingdao, known as the Kiautschou Bay Leased Territory. Dürr also temporarily served as the Military Governor there before returning to the German homeland in the summer of 1900. He briefly returned to duty with the German Army in 1901 but was then selected to serve as Inspector of the Imperial German Naval Infantry. His desire to return overseas lead in 1904 to command of the Marine Expedition Forces. This unit deployed as part of the Kaiserliche Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Südwestafrika, Germany's Colonial Protection Forces engaged in the 1904-1906 Herero Rebellion War. After a few months in Africa, however, Dürr's poor health forced his return to Germany.

At the age of 50, Oberst Dürr was not keen to retire and thus was transferred to Karlsruhe to serve as a high-level military aide in Grand Duke Friedrich I. of Baden's court. He remained in Karlsruhe as Adjutant General to Grand Duke Friedrich II. who succeeded his father Friedrich I. when he passed away in 1907. Karl Dürr was brevetted to General der Infanterie just prior to the outbreak of World War One, but his poor health kept him from receiving a field command during the War. He instead remained as Friedrich II's military escort for the entirety of the conflict and passed away shortly after War's end.
