General Alfred zu
Dohna-Schlobitten who during the Battle of Tannenberg served as adjutant on the Eighth Army's general staff. Alfred enlisted in a dragoon regiment at the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 (Deutsch-Französischer Krieg) and was commissioned as a Sekonde-Lieutenant on 27 September 1870. After the hostilities, he continued advancing in his career as a cavalry officer and in March 1900 was given command of Leib-Garde Husaren Regiment in Potsdam. Kaiser Wilhelm II. brought him on as Flügeladjutant (aide-de-camp) in 1901.  Dohna was in command of 4. Garde-Kavallerie-Brigade from 1904 to 1907, when he took command of Garde-Kavallerie-Division in Berlin.

After promotion to Generalleutnant in 1910, he was elevated in 1911 to General à la suite in Wilhelm's headquarters and dispatched as Militär-Bevollmächtiger (plenipotentiary) to St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1913, he returned to Berlin for promotion to General der Kavallerie and to serve as Generaladjutant in court, retiring from active duty in April 1914.  As Germany mobilized for War, he was reactivated to function as adjutant to 8. Armee commander Max von Prittwitz and thus took part in the Battle of Tannenberg. Graf von Dohna later briefly served as provisional commander of Garde-Korps during the 1917 Battle in Flanders. Following the armistice, he moved to Schloss Finckenstein where he passed away s
hortly before his 78th birthday in December 1929
