As Germany mobilized in August 1914, General Leo von Stocken was
engaged on the Western Front, heading up Friedrich Sixt von Armin's IV. Army
Corps staff. As the War progressed, he additionally commanded a reserve infantry
division, as well as both Landwehr and Ersatz divisions.
Leo von
Stocken was the son of Generalleutnant Eduard von Stocken (1824–1897)
Maria Hedwig nee Quassowski (1832–1906). The Stocken family was elevated into
the German nobility in 1871 due to Eduard's demonstrated bravery during the
Franco-Prussian War. General von Stocken was married to Anna von
Steinkeller, with whom he had a son, Eduard.
