Karl August Maximilian von Roehl
(06.08.1853 - 09.07.1922)
place of birth:  Stralsund
Königreich Preußen:  Stellv KG,  General der Artillerie a.D.

Prussian field artillery general Maximilian von Roehl served the first two years of World War One as General von Quast's Acting Commander at IX. Army Corps headquarters in Hamburg-Altona. Roehl initially entered military service in time to see action as a field artillery officer during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. He continued his career in the inter-war years as an artillerist, eventually receiving command of 28th Field Artillery Brigade in 1902. In 1906, he replaced Max von Prittwitz und Gaffron as commander of 8th Infantry Division in Haale a.S.

Although he retired from the military in 1910, General von Roehl was reactivated at War's outbreak at the brevetted rank of General der Artillerie z.D. His age precluding him from serving on the front, he was thus assigned to commanding IX. Corps headquarters on the home front. When he resigned his command in June 1916, the Kaiser recognized in long-term military service with the Order of the Red Eagle (Roter Adlerorden I. Klasse) with Oakleaves.
